From the cover: “As a guide to some of the loveliest of all flowering trees, here is a book to add to any gardener’s knowledge and pleasure.

Part I — Introduction, includes notes on the diverse origins of flowering cherries, their history in cultivation and their names.

Part II — The Cherries. Each of the 68 choicest species and varieties is described individually, with notes on its manner and time of flowering and the particular merits of its growth, habit, blossom, foliage throughout the seasons, bark; its rarity or popularity; its suitability or drawbacks for different purposes or positions. The cherries are arranged in the book broadly by habit of growth — in eight distinct categories from the slender erect column to the weeping. Within each habit category they are arranged by colour — from white to deep pink.

Part III — Cultivation. The author advises on the choice and placing of cherries, soil aspect, methods of planting, pruning, training, feeding, watering; on propagation by budding and by cuttings; on pests and diseases (though cherries are in general admirably trouble-free) and their treatment.

Part IV — Other flowering trees. Here are notes on 28 other cherries, and on flowering almonds, peaches, apricots, plums, pears, apples and crabs; also on 36 assorted evergreens, recommended for their great value as a foil or background, to enhance the beauty of the flowering cherries and other fruit trees.”
