From the cover: “Between Charleston and Beaufort, in the South Carolina Lowcountry, lies Colleton County, formerly St. Bartholomew’s Parish. Rich in history and blessed with landscapes of inspiring beauty, the plantations of St. Bartholowmew’s Parish have for centuries maintained a lifestyle unique to the Lowcountry. Possibly numbering more than any other single county in South Carolina, these plantations form the heart of the famous ACE Basin, named for the Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto Rivers. The legacy of the rice planting era, combined with a tradition of stewardship, has led to the preservation, conservation and restoration of these properties. The plantations date to the eighteenth century, with an array of houses ranging from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, and representing an exciting diversity of styles.

Welcome to St. Bartholowmew’s Parish; please join us for a special visit behind plantation gates. Let the tour begin!”
