From the cover: “Judy Leden is, without question, the greatest woman pilot in free flying. She has been three times champion of the world, twice in hang gliding, at present in paragliding and six times British Women’s Champion. She has dropped from a balloon at 41,000 feet over the Jordanian desert, higher than any man or woman in the world, in temperatures and wind chill so terrible that for fifteen minutes she flew with her eyes frozen shut. She has also captained the British hang gliding team in which every other pilot in the competition was a man.

Judy has discovered a deep affinity with the birds of prey which she meets in the air. She has giggled her way across the Indian Himalayas being grumpily barged aside by a vulture besotted by the sail pattern of Judy’s flying companion. In Australia, territorial wedgetail eagles saw her as a threat and furiously tore her wing at 6,000 feet. And in Patagonia, Judy fulfilled her dream by flying wingtip to wingtip with the true masters of the air, the Andean condors.

There is not a hang glider or paraglider pilot in the world, man or woman, who would not acknowledge Judy’s skills, her class and her courage, as well as her feminity and compassion. And she writes beautifully. Being carried up into the stratosphere, not knowing whether her precautions against dying will be enough, she still finds time to marvel as the reds and golds of the desert glow, the long shadows of the crags retreat, scurrying away from the heat of the day. Judy will take you to rare and secret aerial places you could not reach alone, and evoke a world still full of adventure if you know where to look for it.”

Foreword or introduction by H. M. King Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Size: 9½" x 6¼". Red boards with Silver titling to the Spine. [XVI] 284 pages.
