A few of his most well-known novels are referred to as the Waverley Novels and include Waverley,which was the first in the series. Published anonymously in 1814, it was Scott's first venture into prose fiction. Other novels in the series include Ivanhoe and Rob Roy. Waverley is set in the period of the Scottish Jacobite Uprising , 1745.
