The Collected Stories of Angus Wilson - Angus Wilson

London: Secker & Warburg, 1987, Hardback in Dust Wrapper.
Condition: Very Good — in Good Dust Wrapper. Gently bruised at the head of the spine and the top corners of the boards with commensurate wear to the dust wrapper which is heavily sunned at the spine. Text complete, clean and tight.

From the cover: “The short stories of Angus Wilson are unique. Their first impact is as high comedy, savage wit and pinpoint social satire, marked by an infallible ear for dialogue and an unblinking eye for the wickedly definitive image. In all their widely varied settings and moods — seedy, grotesque, genteel, macabre — Wilson illuminates his targets with an inimitable waspish compassion.

Angus Wilson’s first completed work was the short story Raspberry Jam, which he wrote during the course of a weekend. This, with eleven other stories written at the same merciless pace, made up his first published volume, The Wrong Set, in 1949. It was an electrifying debut. A second collection, Such Darling Dodos, appeared in the following year and reinforced his growing reputation. With Hemlock and After and Anglo-Saxon Attitudes, Wilson was to move to the larger landscapes of the novel, and his third volume of stories, A Bit off the Map, explores a wider variety of extent and technique.

This collection contains all the stories from all three volumes, with one additional story that appears here between hard covers for the first time.”
