Ram Ram India: Notes from a Ride in the Subcontinent - Alex Thomson & Nick Rossiter

Collins, 1987, Hardback in Dust Wrapper.
Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Gently bruised at the spine ends and corners with commensurate ruffling to the dustwrapper. Text complete, clean and tight.

Illustrated with black and white photographs. From the cover: “Alex Thomson and Nick Rossiter set off to cycle from Kashmir to the southern tip of India with a lack of preparation that would reassure the most absent-minded city dweller. They made their way through the Himalayan passes with no introductions, no sleeping bags, and very little initiative. They were not even terribly good cyclists.

It was hardly surprising, therefore, that their tangles with Indian bureaucracy often reached Gothic dimensions; that their encounters with Indian wildlife smacked more of Pythonesque hysteria than of the thrill of the safari; and that their meetings with Indians and British ex-patriates had the beauty and surprise that comes to true travellers unexpectedly, out of a clear sky, rather than from the shadow of the Raj.

It is the humour in their journey, and in their account of it, that readers will find so refreshing. They will follow the gradual revelation of a friendship between two ill-matched companions whose tolerance of each other and of their circumstances brings with it, as if by accident, as clear an illumination of India and her people as we have been lucky enough to see in print for some time.”
