From the cover: “The first edition of this book appeared in 1970 and was written to provide students, whether in universities, technical colleges, extra-mural courses, or in industry, with a systematic exposition of the subject. Like its predecessor (System of Industrial Relations in Great Britain edited by Allan Flanders and H. A. Clegg, Blackwell, 1954) it has already been accepted as a standard work. But the quickening pace of change in industrial relations, which created the need for the book in 1970 and for a second edition in 1972, has continued to accelerate so that a third edition is now called for.
The final chapter has been completely re-written to take account of events and’ developments up to the end of 1975.
The account of structures and problems in the earlier chapters is still generally valid, and in most particulars where the unrevised chapters are now deficient the new final chapter fills the gap, or brings the topic up-to-date. The book is still unrivalled for the comprehensiveness of its treatment of the subject.”
