Moon River and Me: A Memoir by Andy Williams (£19.00)Publisher: Weidenfeld & Nicolson — 2009Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0297856391]Condition: Very Good+ — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Price Clipped. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs;

From the cover: “Andy Williams is one of the greatest singing stars of all time. During a glittering career spanning eight decades, he has headlined at concert venues in almost every city on the planet, sold over 100 million albums, hosted a hugely successful TV show and worked with a roll-call of showbusiness legends that included Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Lauren Bacall, Jack Lemmon, Elvis Presley and John Lennon. His television show also introduced stars of the next generation, like the Osmonds and Elton John.

Now, for the first time, Andy tells the whole remarkable story. An Iowa farm boy who grew up during the Great Depression — so poor he had to sing for his shoes Andy began performing at the age of seven as one quarter of the Williams Brothers. They graduated from church halls and a funeral parlour to mid-Western radio stations, and found fame in Hollywood movies and a headlining nightclub act that was the sensation of its era.

After going solo, Andy endured his wilderness years, barely scraping a living in ‘rust-belt’ supper clubs — to re-emerge as one of the greatest television and recording stars of his era. The Andy Williams Show topped television ratings around the world, and a string of smash hits, including his signature tune ‘Moon River’, went on to earn him eighteen gold and three platinum discs.

Still singing, still holding audiences in the palm of his hand, Andy Williams looks back on an extraordinary show business life. Revelatory, honest, funny and touching, Moon River and Me is the inspiring autobiography of an icon.”

Vivien Leigh by Hugo Vickers (£19.00)Publisher: London: Hamish Hamilton — 1988Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0241125367]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. A little rubbing to the edges of the dust wrapper. Price Clipped. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black and White Photographs;

From the cover: “Vivien Leigh won international acclaim at the age of twenty-six when she crossed the Atlantic and walked off with the coveted part of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind under the noses of some of Hollywood’s most famous stars. For this part alone she has earned a lasting place in film history. She was hardly ever in a bad film or a bad play and she tried a wide range of parts — scoring notable triumphs in A Streetcar Named Desire, as a convincing Lady Macbeth and as Sabina in The Skin of Our Teeth.

There have been many biographies of Vivien Leigh, invariably Hollywood filmographies, most of which have been inaccurate and incomplete. Hugo Vickers approaches his subject as a human being, according her the same detailed research that the readers of his Cecil Beaton and Gladys, Duchess of Marlborough have come to expect of him. He examines the previously uncharted story of Vivien Leigh’s antecedents, making surprising new discoveries. He is able to bring Vivien’s parents to life as real people with the help of a great number of family documents, letters and diaries, made available by Vivien’s daughter for the first time. These give the first clear account of the atmosphere in which Vivien was raised.

He traces the progress of her relationship with Leigh Holman, from their first meeting, through the period of their engagement, marriage and divorce, and shows how they formed an important, lasting friendship, helped by the complete series of letters Vivien wrote to him between 1932 and 1967. He has made extensive use of the Oswald Frewen diaries, an essential source not only on that marriage but on Vivien’s elopement with Laurence Olivier and their subsequent adventures.

Hugo Vickers also examines Vivien’s film and stage career, writing of her as a person and not as the “property” of a film company or a name on a contract. He examines her films and, drawing on a great number of interviews with famous figures of the stage, he recreates her part in the life of English Theatre in the 1940s and 1950s. An important feature of the book is, of course, her love for Laurence Olivier and their twenty-year marriage, so much of it made difficult by recurring bouts of tuberculosis and manic depression. Hugo Vickers, drawing on many hours of conversation with her devoted friend, the actor John Merivale, explains how Vivien re-established her life after the divorce.

Vivien Leigh emerges as a more real and more intelligent person than in previous accounts, a spirited and courageous actress brought down by ill-health.”

We follow the extraordinary life of a star and a symbol, an American dream and an adolescent illusion, the story of an era of energy and excess. Combining astonishing disclosures with incisive cultural commentary, Goldman portrays Elvis as the archetypal superstar, a catalyst of worldwide popular culture — glorified, condemned and universally mythicized during his reign as King. We are given a relentless exposé of the near-legendary Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’s manager, now facing a rising tide of criticism for his handing of Elvis’s wealth and talent.”Notes: Size: 9½" x 6¼". Gable's Women by Jane Ellen Wayne (£13.00)Publisher: Simon & Schuster — 1987Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0671654837]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. A little rubbing to the edges of the dust wrapper. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black and White Photographs;

From the cover: “Gables Women is the biography of a screen giant. But it is more than the story of the roughneck oilfield worker who became a movie star. Clark Gable was a man of such magnetism that women knew when he entered a room. And he instinctively capitalized on this appeal.

To understand him is to understand the many interesting women in his life. Of his many marriages, one was never consummated and one was an elopement on a drunken binge. There were five wives. One wife taught him how to act; when he’d learned the rudiments of his craft he walked out on her. Another gave him a taste of the finer things in life before he left her. He was introduced to society by his fourth wife, and he then locked her out. His true love was Carole Lombard, the blond hoyden whose untimely death set him off on a death wish of his own. His last love bore him a son after Gable’s fatal heart attack.

But there were many more. Gable loved women, and, married or single, he cut a swath through the willing Hollywood female population. His affair with Joan Crawford lasted thirty years although both were married several times during that period. His leading ladies inevitably found him irresistible off-camera. Even Grace Kelly initiated a romance with Gable more torrid than the one depicted on the screen during the filming of Mogambo. Gable’s close friends were Errol Flynn, Gary Cooper, and other notorious womanizers. His friendships and feuds are re-created in this colorful and revealing biography.”

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain (£12.00)Publisher: Canongate — 2012Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. [ISBN: 0857864386]Condition: Very Good+ — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper slighlty pulled at the head of the upper panel otherwise a very well presented copy. Description: From the cover: “Nineteen-year-old Billy Lynn is home from war.

Back in Texas, he has become a celebrity. A Fox News crew filmed Billy and the rest of Bravo squad defeating Iraqi insurgents in a ferocious firefight. Now Billy is a decorated soldier and Bravo’s three minutes of extreme bravery under fire is a YouTube sensation.

Seizing on this PR gift, the Bush administration has sent the surviving members of Bravo on a nationwide ‘Victory Tour’ to reassure the folks at home. Today, during the final hours of the tour, they arrive at Texas Stadium as guests of honour as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Chicago Bears in a nationally broadcast Thanksgiving Day game.

Ben Fountain’s remarkable novel follows Billy and his fellow Bravos through a climactic afternoon, as they mix with the rich and powerful, endure the politics and affections of their fellow citizens, aspire to sex and marriage with the famous Cowboys cheerleaders, share centre stage with Destiny’s Child during the halftime extravaganza and attempt to close a movie deal with the help of a veteran Hollywood producer. They will learn hard truths about love and death, family and friendship, duty and honour. Tomorrow, they must go back to war.

Tender and full of humanity, this is a wickedly funny and urgent novel about a young man, the citizens who sent him to war, the family he left behind and the era that let it happen. In Billy Lynn, Ben Fountain has created a new American hero for our times.”

Best Movie Stories by Edited by Guy Slater (£11.50)Publisher: Faber & Faber — 1969Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0571086985]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dustwrapper. Dustwrapper a little rubbed at the edges. Edges of the textblock lightly tanned. Text complete, clean and tight.Description: From the flap: “As a by-product of the invention of the movies, there came into existence the fantastic, larger-than-life world of the people who make them. Big money is the dominant theme of this world, and of the stories selected here — big money in head-on collision with art, a collision that tends to leave the artist ‘weighed down by his bank balance’ as Guy Slater puts it, giving ‘a watery cry as he goes down for the third time in his palatial swimming pool’. Here, then, is a collection of stories about life at the top, and at the bottom, of the movie industry, with all its pathetic optimism, its gore and its glitter, by writers who have seen it from the inside: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Noel Coward, Christopher Isherwood, Gerald Kersh, to name but a few.”Notes: Jacket designed by Jerome Gask. Size: 8" x 5½". Red boards with Gilt titling to the Spine. 192 pages. In Search of Myths and Heroes by Michael Wood (£11.50)Publisher: British Broadcasting Corporation [B.B.C./BBC] — 2005Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0563521872]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper pulled at the foot of the upper panel with a short closed tear. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs; Colour Photographs;

From the cover: “In this entrancing new book, historian Michael Wood journeys to some of the remotest places on earth in search of four of our most powerful myths: Shangri-La, Jason and the Golden Fleece, the Queen of Sheba and King Arthur. His adventures take him from the fantastic landscapes of Tibet and the mountains of Georgia to the coasts of Ethiopia and Yemen. Michael asks why these famous legends still captivate us as he goes in search not just of the historical past and literal truth but also the mythic past.

In the first of these journeys, Michael investigates the legend of the hidden valley of Shangri-La -a place where the ancient wisdom of humanity is preserved for future ages — immortalized in James Milton’s novel and Frank Copra’s Hollywood movie.

The Greek legend of Jason’s search for the Golden Fleece is the ultimate quest, older even than Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey — but was there really an expedition beyond the limits of the known world back in the mists of prehistory, before the Trojan War?

Travelling from Jerusalem to the Horn of Africa, Michael uncovers the legends of the Queen of Sheba, King Solomon and the Ark of the Covenant, stories found in the Jewish and Christian Bible, the Ethiopian Book of Kings and the Muslim Koran.

Finally, Michael travels through the Celtic countries of the British Isles in search of the tales of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and the Holy Grail. Where do these stories come from? And why are we still fascinated by the once and future king?

Illustrated with a wonderful series of specially commissioned photographs by the Himalayan photographer and mountaineer Steve Razzetti, In Search of Myths and Heroes is at once a book of great journeys, a historical adventure and an exploration of some of humanity’s most enduring myths.”

Postmodernism and Its Discontents: Theories, Practices by Edited by E. Ann Kaplan (£11.50)Publisher: Verso — 1989Binding: Paperback [ISBN: 0860919250]Condition: Good. A pleasant enough reading copy. Gently rubbed at the edges of the spine and wrappers. Single reading crease to the spine. Leans slightly. Previous owners' inscription to the first blank. Description: 2nd printing. From the cover: “Contributors: Mike Davis; William Galperin; David E. James; Fredric Jameson; E. Ann Kaplan; Warren Montag; Fred Pfeil; Dana Polan; Robert Stam; Linda Williams;

On the current battlefield of cultural criticism and production, no term has been more vigorously contested than ‘postmodernism’. Defying clear definition, yet persisting as an indispensable category, it has become one of the central topics in the theory and practice of contemporary culture.

Postmodernism and Its Discontents collects some of the major theoretical statements in this debate, including the key intervention of Fredric Jameson, and pits them against original contributions by a range of younger writers who explore the terrain of postmodernism in a variety of cultural practices. Essays on poetry and punk culture, recent American fiction, rock videos, Hollywood and foreign film, and sports and soap operas complement more directly theoretical pieces which tackle, to repeat the title of one essay, ‘what is at stake in the debate on postmodernism’.

Above all, this collection is distinguished by its steadfast refusal to elide the determinate political issues posed by postmodernism. Each of the essays insists upon the materiality of cultural production, locating various postmodernist practices in the social conditions of contemporary life, including the overarching structures of gender and class..”

Roseanne: My Lives by Roseanne Arnold (£11.50)Publisher: Century — 1994Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0712661921]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Pages lightly age-tanned otherwise a very well presented copy. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs;

From the cover: “In her explosive new book, top-rated TV star Roseanne Arnold once again breaks the mould and does the unexpected. The woman who’s seen it all — and done most of it — tells the unvarnished, uncensored truth about what has happened to her since ‘Roseanne’ became a hit. But success in Hollywood comes with a high price tag and Roseanne reveals the battles she has had to keep her own material on the show and make ‘Roseanne’ a programme about a three-dimensional woman in control of her life, not a victim of it.

Roseanne talks unflinchingly about the painful side of being herself: dealing with her family, her past, drugs and attacks in the press. She talks frankly about her personal life and her relationship with her soul mate, Tom Arnold.

This is a raw, raunchy and powerful memoir from a woman who has created the life she wanted without much help from anybody. She’s written the book that no star at the top ever dares write: she blows the lid off what it’s like to make it in Hollywood from the unique perspective of being a powerful player herself.

Quintessentialy Roseanne.”

No more a conventional novel than she is a conventional woman, A Woman of Her Times extends beyond one heroine’s story to portray the situation of modern woman, torn between the respectable roles of wife and mother and the need to establish her separate identity.

Elizabeth’s serene colonial existence is shattered by the discovery of her husband’s infidelity — a discovery which kindles to life the flame of dissatisfaction smouldering within her. In fashionable twenties’ London the flame becomes a blaze, but Elizabeth shows so elegant a face to the world that few suspect her troubled marriage, her estrangement from her only child — or her relationship with her devoted lover… As an impoverished working woman alone in thirties’ Hollywood, she tirelessly struggles to forge a new life, to find her own still point for the first time, but a final turn of the screw reveals that men have never ceased to manipulate her -even from beyond the grave.

As we leave her, and the sirens heralding the Second World War howl around her, Elizabeth Wingate has learned that it is her destiny — and the destiny of all women — to continue the fight, and to fight to win.”

Grace by Robert Lacey (£10.50)Publisher: Sidgwick & Jackson — 1994Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0283061588]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs;

From the cover: “Has the twentieth century produced a more successful princess than Grace Kelly? She was the very embodiment of the idea. Glamour, humanity, warmth, aloofness, elegance — Grace blended all the conflicting and contradictory components necessary to succeed as a royal person in the age of the tabloid and the telephoto lens.

From the moment she stepped before the movie camera in 1950, the world was captivated by this stunningly beautiful yet elusive actress. Robert Lacey, author of Majesty and The Kingdom, is the first biographer to penetrate the storybook facade. Through hundreds of interviews with Graces family and friends, he weaves the tale of a complex and surprisingly conflicted woman who created a dream for herself and lived it.

Aristocratic in bearing, she grew into a sensual, recklessly daring woman, who was both a conformist and a rebel. By the time she was a young actress, she had had passionate affairs with some of the most glamorous film stars of the day: Clark Gable, Ray Milland, William Holden, Bing Crosby, and Jean-Pierre Aumont — an early hint of Grace’s fondness for the exotic and continental.

Robert Lacey gives intimate details of how Grace met her prince, and of their relationship — half marriage of convenience, half genuine love match. He describes their wedding, the unhappy early years in the gloomy palace on the rock, and how Grace rose above them. Her eventual success as the Princess of Monaco was the result of hard work, determination and extraordinary dedication.

She was plagued by miscarriages. She indulged her children. As she grew older, her life became consumed by her conflicts with her teenage daughters. Lacey brings out the true nature of her relationship with Rainier, how the dream marriage cooled in later years — and he describes the consolations to which Grace turned as she approached middle age.

Grace’s tragic death at the age of fifty-two remains a shock and a mystery. Princesses are not supposed to leave us like that. Lacey provides new details — what really happened in the car, Rainier’s decision to switch off the life support machine, the anger which that aroused in the Kelly family. He recounts the misadventures of the Grimaldi children since their mother’s death — the paternity suits against Prince Albert, Princess Stephanie’s child born out of wedlock, the marriages and romances of Princess Caroline.

It is a rich and complex story set against the backdrop of Hollywood and the great American cities of Philadelphia and New York in their heyday, moving on to Monte Carlo, the racy Mediterranean statelet which has never been quite so charming as is seems. Grace brought an age of true dignity to this “sunny place for shady people”. Aristotle Onassis, General de Gaulle, David Niven, Frank Sinatra — the cast of characters is extraordinary.”

Laurence Olivier: A Biography by Donald Spoto (£10.50)Publisher: HarperCollins — 1991Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0002158574]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Price Clipped.Description: Illustrated with black and white photographs. From the cover: “Laurence Olivier was, incomparably, the greatest actor of this century, perhaps the greatest of all time. Many of his roles — as Hamlet, Othello and Richard III, and as Archie Rice in John Osborne’s The Entertainer — have already entered theatrical legend, and in his film of Henry V he transcended his craft, and came to embody the hopes and aspirations of a whole nation.

Yet Olivier’s early life gave little indication of the unrivalled preeminence he was ultimately to attain. Born in Dorking in 1907, the son of a clergyman, his career in the theatre had an undistinguished beginning, and he excited the lukewarm interest of Hollywood chiefly because of his resemblance to Ronald Colman. Even at the height of his fame, his greatest triumphs frequently took place against a background of self-doubt and even despair, and his personal life bore little resemblance to his glittering, regal public image.

Now, in the first biography of Olivier to appear since his death, Donald Spoto reveals the real Laurence Olivier, the often lonely and unhappy man behind the great heroic actor. He discloses for the first time the truth about Olivier’s three marriages, to Jill Esmond, Vivien Leigh and Joan Plowright. Based on extensive research, many previously unpublished documents and over 160 interviews with those who knew and worked with Olivier, this is the first full portrait of our greatest man of the theatre.”

Put the Knife in Gently: Memoirs of a Life with Legends by Donald Zec (£10.50)Publisher: London: Robson Books — 2003Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 1861056974]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. A little rubbing to the edges of the dust wrapper. Text complete, clean and tight. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black and White Photographs;

From the cover: “Kirk Douglas once implored Donald Zee to ‘put the knife in gently’ — a variant on Hollywood’s dictum: ‘I don’t care what you say, just spell the name right’. Donald Zee’s celebrated entertainment column appeared in the Daily Mirror for more than twenty years and he spent much of that time in Hollywood. He developed close friendships with many of the celebrities of the fifties, sixties and seventies and became one of the few journalists they trusted.

Put the Knife in Gently is a witty and revealing look at Zee’s experiences with Hollywood’s legends. Sailing with Humphrey Bogart on his yacht the Santana; encountering Gary Grant in his hotel room as he washed his dainty ladies’ smalls (a traveller’s tip, not a fetish); having coffee with Marilyn Monroe at her apartment; experiencing the spectacle of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in full flow; joining John and Yoko on the bed during their honeymoon protest — all this and much more is recounted with humour, insight and affection.

Zee’s sharp observation penetrates the hype upon which Hollywood is built and lays bare the real people behind the facades. Put the Knife in Gently is hugely entertaining and a compelling read for anyone interested in Hollywood and the film legends of the twentieth century.”

Seize and Hold: Master Strokes on the Battlefield by Bryan Perrett (£10.50)Publisher: Arms & Armour — 1994Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 1854091875]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. A little rubbing to the edges of the dust wrapper. Top edge of the text block tanned. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs; Maps; From the cover: “Napoleon said that the success of the coup de main depended absolutely upon luck rather than upon judgement. This must rank as one of his less considered comments: as this book makes plain, the military tactic of the sudden acquisition of a strategic objective can be — should be — clinically designed and ruthlessly attempted however hurried its conception.

In the style of his hugely successful volumes Last Stand! and At All Costs!, Bryan Perrett now examines in accurate detail and exciting, atmospheric description, eleven examples of this battlefield manoeuvre which has often had telling effect on the campaign of which it has been part. From central Europe in 1916 through the theatres of World War Two and Korea to the Vietnam conflict in 1965, each example portrays the many facets and dramas of land warfare, causing the reader to question whether the events are real, faithful accounts of actual happenings and not the creation of a Hollywood scriptwriter.

If the Trojan Horse was an early example of a coup and the advanced air/land weaponry of today means that the tactic will be viewed in a new light in the future, the fact remains that the 20th century has given us outstanding Seize and Hold actions. Military historians, veterans and serving officers, modellers and wargamers will all be entertained and informed by the stories retold here, but the reader of adventure fiction, too, will thrill to the breathtaking attacks in Romania, on the road to Beda Fomm, in Burma and at the Inchon landings among many daring exploits recounted within the pages of this book.”

From Understanding the Media by Marshal! McLuhan to Nicholas Negroponte’s Being Digital, the books that have shown us the clearest vision of the future have been those that recognize the central role of mass media. In The Entertainment Economy, Michael J Wolf, the industry’s most in-demand strategist, demonstrates that media and entertainment have moved beyond culture to become the driving force of the global economy. From London to Lagos, from Singapore to Seattle, from New York to New Delhi, every business is locked in the same battle for consumer attention that film producers and television programmers deal with on a daily basis. Consumer businesses, just like entertainment businesses, have to turn to content for the competitive edge. As adviser to companies and individuals such as Disney, Rupert Murdoch, Bertelsmann and Intel, Wolf is known by industry insiders as the moguls’ secret weapon.”Notes: Jacket designed by Andy Bridge. Among the Dead by Michael Tolkin (£9.50)Publisher: Faber & Faber — 1993Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0571168442]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper a little rubbed at the edges, more heavily at the tips of the panels and the head of the spine. Pages lightly age-tanned.Description: From the cover: “Frank Gale has been an unfaithful husband, but he plans to take his wife and daughter to Mexico, where he will come clean about his affair and try to make it up to them. After lingering too long at a goodbye lunch with his mistress, however, he misses their plane. Several hours later, waiting for the next flight out, he discovers that his wife’s jet has crashed in San Diego, killing everyone on board. And so begins the comedy of horrors wherein Gale will discover the many unpleasant truths about himself and about life that lie hidden Among the Dead.

Tolkin explored the emotional geography of a soulless Hollywood executive in The Player; now he raises the stakes: what if the executive had a conscience? What would it make of the chaos he had wrought? For Frank Gale, the only answer is a slowly spiralling descent into madness as the vultures of disaster swoop down upon the carnage of the wrecked plane and his wrecked soul.”

From the cover: “Frequently the target of scandalous tabloid headlines, Elizabeth Taylor’s love affairs and failed marriages have captured the attention of the world’s press for almost half a century. Just when we thought we knew everything about this screen siren, Ellis Amburn blows the lid off some of Hollywood’s best kept secrets. This compelling new biography poignantly recounts the successful removal of a golf-ball-sized brain tumour; her courageous recovery after breaking her back twice within two years; the exciting launch of her fragrance line, which became an instant success; and her loving relationship with Rod Steiger, who nurtured her back to health after a nervous breakdown. Amburn also reveals Taylor’s tragic and heartbreaking affection for Montgomery Clift and James Dean and explores Taylor’s disastrous marriage to the abusive and philandering Nicky Hilton, who abandoned Liz on their honeymoon to be with another woman. And then there is the infamous and cunning Eddie Fisher, who forced Liz to appear at his Las Vegas shows in order to bring in capacity crowds, as well as accounts of Richard Burton’s homosexual activities and his exploitation of Taylor.”Notes: Size: 9½" x 6¼". Final Jeopardy by Linda Fairstein (£9.50)Publisher: Little, Brown & Co. — 1996Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0316880086]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper a little wrinkled at the edges. Leans slightly. Pages lightly age-tanned.Description: From the cover: “Manhattan’s top sex crimes prosecutor stares at the shocking headline in the morning newspaper, reading her own obituary. But Assistant D.A. Alexandra Cooper is very much alive. The body found by police on the secluded road leading to Alexandra’s country house on Martha’s Vineyard belonged instead to the internationally acclaimed Hollywood star, Isabella Lascar.

Isabella had borrowed Alex’s home for a quiet holiday. Police found her body — tall and slim, like Alex — in a car rented in Cooper’s name, without any form of identification, and her face blown away by the shotgun blast that took her life.

When Alexandra tells the police who the victim was, the investigation takes two distinct paths. One makes the assumption that the movie star was the intended target of the killer, while the other recognises that Alex herself may be the next victim of the assassin.

Alexandra’s job is to send rapists and stalkers to jail, and she’s very good at it. So good, in fact, that the list of potential suspects who’d like to see her dead is horrifically long. On the other hand, Isabella had previously suffered the attentions of a stalker, and her fame had attracted an equally long list of obsessive fans. Or is the killer coming from an entirely different direction?

Final Jeopardy is a formidable thriller of intelligence and authenticity, and marks the debut of a character who will be entertaining readers for many years to come.”

From the cover: “A-list celebrities don’t come much bigger than George Clooney. Film star, producer and, most recently, director, Clooney brings a Midas touch to every project he takes on. Directors queue to shoot his next picture, actors take huge salary cuts to appear alongside him, producers bend schedules to accommodate his every need. But it wasn’t always like this. When hospital drama series ER hit American TV screens in 1994, George Clooney finally achieved the ‘overnight’ success that he’d been working solidly towards for more than a decade. As maverick paediatrician Dr Doug Ross, he won over the hearts of millions, finally putting behind him the gruelling and often demeaning years of selling women’s shoes, cutting tobacco and appearing in more than a dozen pilot episodes for series that were never made. Next stop Hollywood, and starring roles with Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.”Notes: Size: 9½" x 6¼". Black boards with Silver titling to the Spine. 250 pages. Life with My Sister Madonna by Christopher Ciccone with Wendy Leigh (£9.50)Publisher: Simon & Schuster — 2008Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 1847374387]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper very slightly rubbed at the edges and a small ding to the join of the upper board. Text complete, clean and tight. Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs; Colour Photographs;

From the cover: “Christopher Ciccone’s extraordinary memoir is based on his forty-seven years of growing up with, working with and understanding the most famous woman of our time who has intrigued, scandalized and entertained millions for half a century.

Through most of the iconic star’s kaleidoscopic career, Christopher played an important role in her life: as her back-up dancer, her personal assistant, her dresser, her decorator, her art director, her tour director.

If you think you knew everything there is to know about Madonna, you are wrong. Only Christopher can tell the full-scale, riveting untold story behind Madonna’s carefully constructed mythology and the real woman behind the glittering facade. From their shared Michigan childhood, which Madonna transcended, then whisked Christopher to Manhattan with her in the early eighties, where he slept on her roach-infested floor and danced with her in clubs all over town — Christopher was with her every step of the way, experiencing her first-hand in all her incarnations. The spoiled daddy’s girl, the punk drummer, the raunchy Boy Toy, Material Girl, Mrs. Sean Penn, Warren Beatty’s glamorous Hollywood paramour, loving mother, Mrs. Guy Ritchie, English grande dame — Christopher witnessed and understood all of them, as his own life was inexorably entwined with that of his chameleon sister.

He tangled with a cast of characters from artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, to Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Demi Moore and, of course, Guy Ritchie, whose advent in Madonna’s life splintered the loving relationship Christopher once had with her. The mirror image of his legendary sister, with his acid Ciccone tongue, Christopher pulls no punches as he tells his astonishing story.

Life with My Sister Madonna is the juicy, can’t-put-it-down story you’ve always wanted to hear, as told by Madonna’s younger brother.”
