Television and Radio: Everybody's Soapbox by Bruce Parker; Nigel Farrell; (£14.50)Publisher: Blandford Press — 1983Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0713713062]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper. Top edges of the dust wrapper slightly ruffled. Edges of the text block lightly tanned. Text complete, clean and tight.Description: Illustrated with cartoons. From the cover: “The chance to appear on a radio or television programme is the opportunity of a lifetime to speak to a mass audience. Yet how many people appreciate the value of such an offer, or really know how to make the most of it? With the expansion of broadcasting in the 1980s there will be more air time available to members of the public in scores of programmes, particularly those put out by regional and local television and radio stations. Nearly everyone has something to gain by a chance to appear on the air: the father searching for his teenage daughter, the secretary of the local drama group which is putting on an unusual play, the harassed mother seeking action about the damp walls of her council house, or the managing director who wants a little publicity for his firm’s award-winning product. Everybody’s Soapbox explains in an entertaining way not only how to use your time on the air effectively but how to go about obtaining it in the first place. The authors take a detailed and often humorous look into what happens behind the scenes of broadcasting. Some of the pitfalls are described, including the ones to avoid when being interviewed. Don Osmond’s cartoons complement the light-hearted but informative text. Much advice is provided, particularly for those who find themselves on the air for the first time. Radio and television techniques are revealed and the jargon is made clear. There is guidance on how to handle an interview and how best to present yourself. You can also find out the right way to deal with the film crew which may arrive at your house.”Notes: Illustrated by Don Osmond. Size: 8¾" x 5¾". The Motorist's Miscellany by Anthony Harding (£12.50)Publisher: B. T. Batsford — 1964Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. Condition: Very Good — in Good Dust Wrapper. Dust wrapper lightly scuffed at folds and edges. Price Clipped. Text bright and tight.Description: Illustrated by way of: Black & White Photographs; Black & White Drawings;

From the cover: “The Publishers have not received any written abuse about The Motorist’s Weekend Book and The Motorist’s Bedside Book — which perhaps goes to show that automotive squares, albeit with a wheel at each corner, are as illiterate as they are equilateral. Nevertheless, this has encouraged them a great deal — at any rate to the extent that they have egged on the same pear-shaped Editor to relinquish the semi-slouching position especially designed for him by Colin Chapman, to sit up properly, and to prevail upon some of the finest motoring writers in the world to contribute to another light-hearted motoring symposium, potpourri, melange or W. H. Y. Those who were unable to resist his blandishments (or who just needed the money) are listed on the back flap of this jacket.

The leading motoring photographers triumph again in a collection of brilliant illustrations, and there are cartoons by Russell Brockbank, Bill Thacker and Fred Wilkin. Every true motoring enthusiast will enjoy this book; while those other shaken drivers, cowering in their armchairs, twitching gently and congratulating themselves on survival, will undoubtedly find something inside it which will persuade them to take heart, extend their necks, and to fight again another day..”
