From the cover: “From the author of the internationally acclaimed The Day After Tomorrow comes a thriller of equal complexity, daring action and chilling credibility.

In Italy the Cardinal Vicar of Rome is assassinated during a celebration for the Pope’s birthday.

In Los Angeles Harry Addison, a highly successful entertainment lawyer, finds a desperate message on his telephone answering machine from his long-estranged brother, Daniel, a priest in the Vatican.

Hours later a tourist bus on which Father Daniel is travelling explodes on the road to Assisi.

Arriving in Italy to claim his brother’s body, Harry is abruptly plunged into a Kafka-esque nightmare of deception and terror. Learning that his brother is the prime suspect in the assassination of the Cardinal Vicar, he soon suspects that his brother may have survived the bus explosion and still be alive, but before he can confirm his suspicions he is himself framed for the murder of an Italian policeman.

On the run from the authorities and at the same time desperately searching for Father Daniel, Harry discovers someone else is looking for his brother as well — the infamous international terrorist and maniacal killer, Thomas Kind. Pursued and alone, Harry finds himself at the centre of a monstrous conspiracy spun from the very heart of the Vatican, where men of God are using the devil’s hand to establish a new Holy Roman Empire in China for the 21st Century.”

Flying Scot by Ian and Jenny Stark (£9.50)Publisher: Pelham — 1988Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0720717698]Condition: Very Good — in Very Good Dust Wrapper.Description: Illustrated with black and white photographs. From the cover: “Ian Stark is today one of Britain’s best known and most popular event riders. Fast and fearless over the cross country fences, he has earned a reputation as a rider of outstanding ability.

Until a few years ago Ian was comparatively unknown but all this changed when he competed at Badminton for the first time in 1984. He finished with his two horses in third and sixth positions. On that occasion he rode what to date are probably his two best known horses — Oxford Blue and Sir Wattie.

Ian Stark grew up in the Scottish Border country and came from a completely non-horsey background. It was not until he was ten that he first rode at a local riding school but from then on he spent every spare moment with horses.

For many years he worked in a local office as well as managing his horses and competing. In 1982 Ian decided to take the bold decision to give up his job and to concentrate full time on horses. This decision was proved correct the following year when Ian won Bramham on Sir Wattie.

The financial pressure was taken off him when be became sponsored by Edinburgh Woollen Mill and since then he has gone on to win a silver team medal at the Los Angeles Olympics, won Badminton, been a member of the British team which won a gold medal in the World Championships at Gawler and was individual silver medallist at the 1987 European Championships.

Flying Scot has been written by Ian and Jenny Stark together and provides a fascinating insight to the world of top class eventing.”

Last Lullaby by Denise Hamilton (£9.50)Publisher: Orion — 2005Binding: Hardback in a Dust Wrapper. First Edition. [ISBN: 0752872443]Condition: Very Good+ — in Very Good+ Dustwrapper. Dustwrapper very slightly rubbed at the edges. Text complete, clean and tight. A nice copy.Description: From the cover: “Los Angeles Times reporter Eve Diamond has spent the day at LAX shadowing a U.S. Customs Supervisor who’s got his eye on an incoming flight from Beijing via Seoul and Tokyo, The flight’s packed with the usual mass of humanity, ranging from the elegant Asian woman in the raspberry silk suit who emerges from first class carrying a tired toddler, to the scruffy students who have spent the long flight in economy,

Suddenly, shots ring out. Three people are dead, including the silk-clad woman. The man who was booked on the flight as the dead woman’s husband is missing. And the sad little toddler is left behind.

Who is this child? Her passport says she’s Japanese, but she doesn’t seem to understand the language. Was the dead woman really her mother? Why has the child made five transpacific flights in one year? And why do Customs and Immigration whisk her immediately into hiding?

Eve knows she must uncover the answers, even though it means putting herself at risk. Her search takes her from LA.’s sleazy hotels and cybercafés to the upscale milieu of trendy restaurants and high-powered human-rights lawyers, Nothing is quite what it appears to be, and nobody seems to want Eve to find the child.

Last Lullaby is a richly nuanced crime novel from a superbly gifted author who asks important questions and never settles for the superficial answer, Her powerful prose and passion for her native city shine through on every page.”
