From the cover: “The Administrative Staff College at Henley (now known as Henley The Management College) is the longest established management school in Europe. Many thousands of middle and senior managers in industry, commerce and finance, government and public service, from various parts of the world, have attended the college’s intensive programme.

In this book, A. I. Cornwall-Jones writes about the origin and growth of the college at Henley and the overseas colleges founded on the Henley model. He discusses the Henley approach to the principles and practices of management, and also gives a more personal account of his own long association with Henley and his extensive travels in its service. He describes how the challenge of bringing together sectors of the economy as diverse as private enterprise, nationalized industry and civil service — each with its own goals and prejudices — is met by the spirit of mutual stimulation at the college, where unique care and attention is given to the learning needs of individual course members and to the practical application of what is learned.

In Part II of the book, contributors representing Henley and seven of the international colleges add their perspectives on management and education, and report on their current activities.”
