In his early life he spent his time between Paris and Bucharest, where he studied law and was involved in journalism and commercial activities. Going from being a Captain in the Free French Forces to unemployed Frenchman in London he worked his way up through the ranks from commis waiter at the Savoy, London, to manager of a hotel in Colonial Africa; General Manager of the Criterion complex in Piccadilly; General Manager of Reid’s Hotel, Madeira and Managing Director of the Hotels: Georges V, Plaza Athenee and La Tremouille in Paris. Later posts included managing the Metropole in Brussels and hotels for Baron Elie de Rothschild’s PLM chain.”
