Arranged by her granddaughter Ellen R. C. Creighton. From the cover: “Ellen Buxton was sixteen in 1864, the second child of Thomas Fowell Buxton (son of the liberal reformer). She never went to school, preferring to stay at home, and seems to have been entrusted with much of the care of her numerous brothers and sisters. Her sketchbooks and diaries have been treasured by her children, and her grand-daughter, Mrs Creighton, has chosen and arranged some of the best and most individual of her work so as to give us a rounded picture of Ellen’s life and surroundings from 1864 to 1866, when the family moved from Leytonstone.”
